ELEMENTS
Elements are an ongoing series of paintings and videographies documenting elemental processes while using pure periodic elements themselves, in lieu of traditional painting media.
In the Elements paintings, low melting point metals are raised to a temperature of 300°C in various aparatus before being poured onto the canvas.
As the media cools and sets, it wrestles precariously between adhesion or annihilation of the substrate. Only some works survive.
The resulting paintings have a depth rarely seen even in the heftiest, impasto applications of oil paint, yet a multifaceted sheen this traditional media often can not convey.
As the viewer moves with the works, this dimensionality and fragility is revealed.
